I spent the long weekend with my family in Idyllwild, a picturesque, idyllic mountain vil- lage that we love visiting. Our time there included an 8 mile hike up to Tahquitz Peak, 8800 feet above sea level.

Each year, the American Thoracic Society (ATS) honors an exemplary commu- nity or academic clinician through its Outstanding Clinician Award (OCA). In ad- dition, Thoracic Society Chapters may nominate an individual for their Chapter OCA award. The OCA recognizes exemplary clinicians who are dedicated to direct patient care. While each Thoracic Society Chapter chooses its own recip- ient, each year only one national award recipient is selected.

After a CTS membership vote, it is my pleasure to introduce Vipul Jain from UCSF Fresno as the new Treasurer of CTS. Vipul is a wonderful clinician and educator, and I could not be happier that he is joining CTS leadership. Vipul rounds out the CTS Executive Committee, which also includes myself, Chris Garvey, Past-President, Lorriana Leard, President-Elect, and Laren Tan, Secretary. MARCH 26, 2018 – NEWSLETTER

On March 15th, Scott Gottlieb, commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, tweeted: “Today #FDA took a historic first step to advance our rulemaking process to render combustible cigarettes minimally or non addictive through regulation of nicotine levels under the FDA’s tobacco product standard.” This announcement came on the same day that a FDA funded study was published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
