CME STATEMENT

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the American Thoracic Society (ATS) and California Thoracic Society (CTS). The ATS is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The ATS designates this live activity for a maximum of 15.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

The California Thoracic Society is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider #CEP599 for 15.25 contact hours.

The course meets the requirements for CE for RCPs in California.

The California Respiratory Care Board accepts the California Thoracic Society’s CEU credits.

Course Information

ACTIVITY SUMMARY:

Friday’s program focuses on Critical Care updates in Ventilation Liberation; Pain, Anxiety, Delirum, Immobility and Sleep (PADIS); Post-Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS); and Critical Care Practitioner Burnout.

Saturday’s morning program provides an overview of thoracic imaging for pulmonary and critical care clinicians. The afternoon session focuses on advances in diagnosis and management of pleural diseases. At the conclusion of this afternoon session, there will be a hands on session dealing with pleural procedures.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

The program is designed for Pulmonologists, Critical Care physicians, Sleep specialists, Anesthesiologists practicing critical care, Hospitalists, Internal Medicine physicians, Radiologists, Sleep technologists, Nurses, Advanced care practitioners, Allied Health Professionals (AHPs), Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Respiratory therapists, Pharmacists, Residents, Fellows and Allied Health Trainees.

Educational Objectives

  • Understand and apply PADIS (pain, agitation/sedation, delirium, immobility, sleep disruption) and ABCDEF (G) guidelines to the evaluation and management of critical care patients.
  • Apply evidence-based guidelines into ventilator strategies and liberation for acute asthma exacerbation.
  • Understand post-intensive care syndrome (PICS) and learn about implementation of PICS treatment programs.
  • Assess critical care burnout and implement tools to prevent and deal with this important issue.
  • Improve clinician’s ability to accurately interpret and diagnose lung diseases by using state-of-the-art techniques.
  • Understand the pathophysiology of pleural diseases and pleural fluid analysis.
  • Understand the current evidence-based management of recurrent malignant and non-malignant pleural effusions.
  • Demonstration and Hands-on experience with pleural procedures.
